I have been working as a facilitator for 5 years and I have met wonderful people who do a wonderful job supporting these hard-working people so that they have better salaries and better labor rights. My favorite part of working with METC has been helping childcare providers complete some of the classes that are required to maintain their DCFS license. Another thing I liked about working with METC is that I can share my knowledge with the providers, and they have the confidence to seek me out and ask me about any questions they may have.
During my time living in Mexico, I was an educator in a program that provides education to indigenous communities where the government does not send teachers to educate the children. I worked for a year, and one of my accomplishments was that the government built a school and a bathroom so that the children would have that space to themselves. But my greatest achievement was that the little children could have a certificate so that they could continue with their studies, because if they did not have a certificate that they could not continue studying.
I was born in the state of California, but my parents took me to Mexico when I was little where I completed most of my studies. I have been living in Chicago for 11 years and here I have completed an associate’s degree in early childhood education, and I am continuing to study to do my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
