Course description

This class introduces participants to the ways trauma and chronic stress affect the brain, body, and behavior. We will explore different types of trauma, stress responses, and how they can show up in everyday life through a neuroscience and relational framing. The class also highlights resilience and coping mechanisms for caregivers. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of trauma-informed care and how to support themselves and others.

  • Define and differentiate trauma and stress and respective impact on daily life
  • Explore different types of traumas and stress that are possible  
  • Understand the neuroscience behind memory encoding and traumatic symptoms
  • Discuss common reactions and coping mechanisms for trauma and stress

  • Provide resources and support networks for individuals dealing with trauma and stress
