Chanelle McGee has served as a Senior Program Assistant with SEIU METC since 2014. She is a member of the METC DORS Home Care team and works directly with home care providers who are in the Chicagoland region. One of Chanelle’s favorite parts about working at METC is helping providers improve care for people with disabilities and advance their professional development with life-saving skills, safety protections, and strategies for resolving on-the-job problems. Her favorite training for providers is Working with a Consumer Who Is Depressed because it helps providers recognize the signs of depression and learn how to respond to it while also managing their own emotional reactions. It’s imperative that providers understand the life changes of their consumer and how this may be a new, emotional time for them. Providers also learn how to navigate that which furthermore improves the care of their consumer.
Chanelle is a strong advocate for both training and lifting up home care workers. She learned the importance of education through her mother, as she was a teacher for over 30 years. Chanelle was also a home care worker for both her mother and grandmother which allowed them to have care at home instead of a facility for their transition. Chanelle has volunteered in many campaigns across SEIU including Fight for 15 and electing our very own members into office including the Alderman candidacy. She also enjoys staying fit by going to the gym and Pilates, skating, and traveling. Chanelle lives with her husband Jonathan and two children Israel and Isaiah in NW Indiana.
