John Colley

Administrative & Data Processing Assistant

John Colley has worked as an Administrative & Data Processing Assistant for SEIU METC since January of 2023. One of the best things of working with the METC is the ability to utilize my 20+ years of experience as a DORS IP/PA, 8+ years as a Member Leader with SEIU HCIIMK, and my 3 years of experience working as a Facilitator for the METC to advocate for better and more expanded trainings and a greater participant experience.

John is still an active Member Leader in the Rockford area and enjoys being an agent of change in his community and the world. John is the former Chairperson of the CTDT (Committee to Determine Topics), 2023 C.A.T. (Contract Action Team), 2023 Spring Springfield Lobbing session, Active on Mayor Johnson Campaign/Run Off, Turnout presenter and running tech for every local (Rockford) Membership Meeting, Turnout activist and table facilitator for 2023 Chicago DORS kickoff event, also assisting with organizing Sevita campaign. John won an award in 2019 for Advancing SEIU HCIIMK Vision for a Just Future, 2021 Outstanding Membership Coordinator at the Leadership Assembly.

One quote that has stuck with me for most of my life came from my grandfather “Boy look at your hand see those 5 fingers going their own way that can be ignored. But if you get those 5 fingers to join, they will make a fist and that is something that no one will ignore”. What this means to me is two parts. 1) We are stronger when we work together, 2) when you are in a fight it is better to have the fingers working together than an open hand. METC, Membership, Member Leaders, SEIU Staff, and Executive Board are all fingers on a hand.

John lives in the Rockford area and has the honor and privilege to take care of his mother in her golden years. With all she has sacrificed in raising John and 3 siblings it is a gift to repay her in some small part.
